Sustainability Policy
1. Purpose
Faurent Maison is committed to responsible design and production practices. This Sustainability Policy sets out our approach to environmental and social considerations across design development, materials, production planning, and delivery.
2. Our Definition of Sustainability
To us, sustainability is the discipline of restraint and longevity. It means creating pieces that are made to last, reducing avoidable waste, and making decisions that remain responsible at scale. Sustainability is not a marketing layer. It is a standard applied to design, materials, and execution.
3. Scope
This policy applies to the work we design and deliver, including bespoke projects and archive designs, and to the operational choices we make with partners involved in sampling, production, and logistics.
4. Design Principles
We apply the following principles to support responsible outcomes.
4.1 Longevity first
We design for long term use and retention. A piece intended to be kept reduces waste and encourages reuse beyond the initial moment.
4.2 Restraint in form and structure
We avoid unnecessary complexity that increases waste, failure points, or excess materials. We prioritise clean construction and purposeful components.
4.3 Considered presentation
We treat packaging as part of the object and experience, not as disposable decoration. We aim for presentation that can be reused, stored, and kept.
5. Materials and Sourcing
5.1 Responsible material selection
Where suitable for the project, we favour materials that are durable, responsibly sourced, and appropriate for everyday handling. Selection is based on performance, longevity, and responsible supply availability.
5.2 Paper and fibre based materials
When paper based components are used, we prioritise options that support responsible forestry and traceability where feasible, subject to client requirements and supplier capability.
5.3 Finish and longevity
We prefer finishes that age well and maintain integrity over time. We avoid choices that are visually impactful but degrade quickly in handling or storage.
6. Production Practices
6.1 Waste reduction through planning
We plan production around confirmed quantities and clear specifications to reduce misprints, defects, and rework.
6.2 Sampling discipline
Sampling is used to confirm proportion, tactility, and finish. We limit unnecessary iterations by aligning early on direction and standards.
6.3 Consistency and quality control
We maintain standards across batches to reduce defects and disposal. Consistency is a sustainability practice because it prevents avoidable waste.
7. Packaging and Logistics
7.1 Protective packaging
We aim to reduce damage in transit through appropriate protection and pack out planning. Lower damage reduces replacement and waste.
7.2 Shipment efficiency
Where possible, we support efficient shipping configuration and consolidation to reduce avoidable freight volume, subject to timeline and project constraints.
8. Partner Expectations
We work with partners who demonstrate care in workmanship and responsible operations. We may request documentation or confirmations relating to material specifications, production standards, and traceability where relevant to the project.
9. Client Collaboration and Guidance
Sustainability outcomes are strongest when clients align with responsible choices. We will provide guidance on design and material decisions that support longevity and reduce waste. Where a requested decision increases waste without improving long term value, we may propose alternatives.
10. Transparency
We avoid absolute claims that cannot be substantiated. Where sustainability related statements are made, they are intended to reflect practical actions and measurable decisions within the scope of each project.
11. Continuous Improvement
We review materials, production methods, and partner capabilities over time. We aim to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and strengthen responsible sourcing as new options become available.
